Kylian Mbappe will present Austrian defence with an immense challenge, though their team’s experience against fast attackers such as him bodes well against France. Ralf Rangnick led his side all the way to reaching the knockout phase at Euro 2020 and are confident they can perform against France with ease.
Stefan Posch has recently recovered from a knee injury and should join Stephan Lichtsteiner and Philipp Laimer in defence. Marcel Sabitzer will play midfield alongside fellow RB Leipzig team-mate Nicolas Seiwald.
Kylian Mbappe
Kylian Mbappe produced a moment of sheer magic combined with hard work to ensure France started their Euro 2024 campaign on an impressive note against Austria in Dusseldorf. Additionally, Real Madrid star Mbappe caused late scare after colliding with Austria defender Kevin Danso’s head and coming off worse due to it.
Louis van Gaal decided to play more cautiously against Mbappe during the early stages of their Group D match, opting to focus more on defense than attacking. Mbappe found his opportunity quickly by breaking through defences on the right before his cross was deflected off Maximilian Wober’s body.
Mbappe was a thorn in the side for Austria as his pace left them struggling to keep up, before firing low strike just wide of far post. Additionally, Mbappe wasted one-on-one opportunity with Antoine Griezmann before going down with what looked like a broken nose and was booked for time-wasting after going down with what seemed like a broken nose.
Due to a flu virus sweeping through France’s squad, veteran N’Golo Kante will start in midfield alongside Adrien Rabiot with Kingsley Coman on the bench. Lucas Hernandez was forced out through foot injury so William Saliba will take up left back duties, with Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano pairing up in centre defense alongside him.
Austria will miss injured stars David Alaba and Xaver Schlager at Euro 2024 but still boast experience thanks to Marcel Sabitzer and Christoph Baumgartner from RB Leipzig’s midfield – two key components in Ralf Rangnick’s 4-2-3-1 system which could give Austria an edge against France when both teams meet up again on Monday in Germany.
Antoine Griezmann
Kylian Mbappe will make his Euro 2024 Group A opener against Austria at Dusseldorf Arena under intense scrutiny on Friday, April 12th. One of the most exciting young players and real superstars for France, Mbappe will look to make an immediate statement against Austria in what should be an incredible showdown. Mbappe is joined by star midfielder Antoine Griezmann as well as experienced players Ousmane Dembele, Marcus Thuram and Benjamin Pavard in Les Bleus’ squad with which they should easily beat Austria!
France began well, moving the ball quickly and purposefully around their penalty area. Mbappe was tackled on the edge of his box by Austrian defenders before Griezmann took advantage of this to take a free kick that floated dangerously into danger area but was easily dealt with.
68 min: France create another chance as Hernandez finds space on the left and sends in a low cross that Mbappe just manages to touch with one leg. Meanwhile, Theo Hernandez takes an unwise shot from close range that Maignan successfully blocks.
Laimer commits a clumsy foul against Griezmann, giving the Atletico Madrid star the opportunity to attempt a cross, but his attempt is blocked by Austria. Austria have had difficulty in the final third but should remain competitive against all opponents due to being well protected in defence by Linder, Posch and Danso as well as Laimer Grilltsch Trauner Mwene and Sabitzer who cover them effectively.
Ousmane Dembele
Ousmane Dembele of France was an immediate threat in the early stages of this game, easily beating Austrian defenders with his pace and skills, creating multiple opportunities to score. Unfortunately he did not manage it though and missed two key chances, including one incredible one where he should have scored.
Phillipp Mwene was involved in an aggressive tackle from him which resulted in him receiving the first yellow card of the match and could prove a huge threat for future opponents’ defenses.
Austria are beginning to assert themselves and possess plenty of possession in the attacking third. Their battle will be against France’s defense; Ralf Rangnick’s squad has an effective balance between attack and defence.
Dembele remains an effective threat from the right flank, though his crossing can often be unreliable. Unfortunately, he’s not receiving much support from his teammates and should become more integral to building up attacking momentum.
Kylian Mbappe may not have been at his best in the opening game, but he still made an impactful statement by beating Mwene to the endline and chipping back across to Max Wober for what should have been an easy finish for Mbappe but was instead headed in by him instead.
French team have made an excellent start, leading 1-0. Antoine Griezmann and N’Golo Kante have taken control of midfield with ease, although transitional phases of play remain sloppy for now; eventually they should find their footing soon enough, though. Match will surely remain close – let’s see how both teams finish it!
Marcus Thuram
Kylian Mbappe leads an all-star cast as France enters Euro 2024 as one of the favourites. Under Didier Deschamps’ watchful guidance, France have won or reached the final in each major tournament since 2014 and Kylian has an excellent chance at adding another win or reaching another final this time around in Germany.
Deschamps has made three changes to his France team after Les Bleus were far from impressive in their 0-0 draw with Canada, including Olivier Giroud’s inclusion as support player for Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele. MF: Olivier Giroud- The Arsenal striker may no longer be at peak form but could play an invaluable supporting role for Mbappe and Dembele.
Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann has moved into the centre of the pitch this season, making him an invaluable creative influence for France. At PSG midfielder N’Golo Kante was key in helping his side win Ligue 1, so his presence will surely prove vital in helping France succeed this tournament.
Ralf Rangnick’s Austria side are an unexpected contender to advance further in this tournament. They topped a highly competitive group and may yet cause shocks among some of the bigger names.
Rangnick can still count on plenty of experience from this squad despite missing Manchester United defender David Alaba and RB Leipzig winger Xaver Schlager, including Borussia Dortmund captain Marcel Sabitzer as captain; Konrad Laimer and Christoph Baumgartner will provide forward roles from Bayern Munich respectively.
Aurelien Tchouameni remains on the sidelines recovering from foot surgery, but the French will not risk him against Austria. Axel Witsel and Thomas Meunier remain injury doubts but completed full training sessions this week. If you can’t watch live streaming of this game then consider using a virtual private network (VPN). Benjamin Pavard
Austria are widely seen as dark horses at this Euro 2024 group stage tournament despite having one of the youngest teams at Euro 2024, led by Ralf Rangnick. They possess several top players like Bayern Munich goalkeeper Patrick Pentz and RB Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer; however they may be limited by injury issues that will prevent key players from playing their full potential.
Since World War II, Finland has not competed at a major tournament and their best finish ever was third place at 1954 World Cup featuring Ernst Ocwirk of Bayern Munich as part of their team.
Didier Deschamps will face a difficult choice when selecting his France starting eleven for Euro 2016. Arsenal’s William Saliba and Liverpool’s Ibrahim Konate may start alongside Dayot Upamecano while N’Golo Kante or Adrien Rabiot may start alongside Antoine Griezmann and Marcus Thuram in midfield.
Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele will form an unfamiliar frontline pairing at Euro 2024 for the first time, making for an interesting contest between two talented young players who must perform to lead France to victory and advance as leaders of their group.
